Cargill United Methodist is a big-tent church, welcoming you with the wide embrace of God’s grace. We seek Jesus as the unifying, not dividing, bedrock of our faith. True to our roots and attuned to today’s world, we believe in both personal faith and caring for our community.
Cargill UMC welcomes all of God’s children, created in God’s image as people of sacred worth. We will continue to build a church that affirms the full participation of all ages, nations, races, cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, or any other differences, real or perceived. The church building is ADA accessible.
Loving care for little ones, engaging classes for kids Free child-care through age 5 on Sundays
Sunday school through 6th grade from 9:45-10:20am Sundays (families may worship together at either service before or after)
We connect with God and each other in weekly worship, as well as through First Friends (for those new to Cargill UMC), age-specific ministries, small groups for all ages, and informal opportunities for fellowship. Cargill is expanding its presence in the community at the summer Farmer’s Market and public events such as book clubs, cookie decorating and craft groups.
Whether it’s through a small group, Bible or book study, or the Looking Up health & wellness ministry, Cargill is committed to spiritual growth and learning. Faith Foundations addresses a new topic each month, and we offer a Confirmation of Faith curriculum for all ages.
Cargill maintains a long tradition of helping others. We serve a monthly community meal (Bountiful Blessings), host seasonal events to help those in need, and partner with community organizations such as ECHO, GIFTS shelter, and CROP Walk to End Hunger. As a United Methodist congregation, we’re connected to relief efforts around the globe through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
Second only to God’s provision, your support is our most important resource. Your faithful and generous giving turns good ideas into life-changing ministries that change lives locally and globally. Thank you!
Whatever has brought you to this page, greetings! I hope whatever led you here also inspires you to be a part of the faith community here at Cargill United Methodist Church.
We want you to feel welcome, whether you’ve never been part of a church before, or you’re a longtime church member. We’re here to help you on your faith journey. We pray that here at Cargill you can find ways to connect with God and others , grow spiritually and learn to serve as Jesus invites us to care for our community.
Steve Scott, Lead Pastor
Cargill UMC represents a cross-section of people of various ages and backgrounds. Some of us are new and questioning. Others are spiritually mature. There’s not a mold you have to fit into here.
We are an 850-member congregation located in the south-central Wisconsin city of Janesville, Wisconsin.
As a congregation of The United Methodist Church, we are locally focused and globally connected. We are committed to the city of Janesville and surrounding areas of Rock County.
Pastor Steve Scott has served as lead pastor of Cargill UMC since July 2020. Our associate pastor is Leo Cadavos, and our pastor of senior ministries is Stu Allen. Meet other members of our valued leadership team.
If this is your first time here, we hope you feel like a guest, not a visitor. We remember what it’s like to visit a church for the first time! We won’t single you out but hope you feel welcomed.
This is a chance to worship if your Sunday schedule doesn’t allow, or if you prefer a relaxed gathering with a smaller group of worshipers that takes place in our Chapel.
Experience the heart of the Christian tradition with spoken word, music and prayer that reflects the fullness and beauty of Christian worship.
A fresh expression of worship. No rock bands or smoke machines, but a variety of music styles and a personal approach. Designed to welcome a variety of faith backgrounds and generations.
Worshiping together is the heart of what we do as the church. It’s how we “get on the same page” as Cargill people with God and one another. Three services are held in person each week. Past services are available on YouTube and live-streamed at 9am and 10:30am Sundays.
We worship through music, spoken word, prayer, and learning from Scripture. Some of our services follow a set order of worship, while others are more informal.
You may dress comfortably for worship. You will find many wear casual clothes (including shorts in summer), while others are attired more formally. Either way, we welcome you!
Our largest parking lot, on the building’s west side, allows easy access to the main entrance. This entrance is undergoing a major renovation in 2026 to become more spacious and welcoming. From this lot, you can also access a walkway and entrances on the north side, just off Wesley Avenue. There is handicapped parking available and a covered area for drop offs.
Entrance on the north side, adjacent to accessible parking spaces.
Sunday School is a great opportunity for children to grow in their faith, build friendships, and learn more about God in an engaging and age-appropriate environment.

We offer free child care in a supervised nursery during both the 9 am and 10:30 am Sunday worship services. For children up through age 5. You may bring your child before the service begins or at any time during worship. Pagers are available to rest your mind at ease and our staff is happy to answer any of your questions.
We also do our best to offer childcare during special events and services.
As United Methodists, we believe that baptism unites us with Christ’s church. Baptism brings new members into the fellowship of the church and marks the beginning of a process of growth toward God. It’s a symbol of new life and a promise of God’s saving love, and a sign of God’s forgiveness for our sins. Water is the special symbol of baptism. To ask about baptism, we invite you to reach out to one of our pastors:
In the United Methodist Church, we practice open Communion. That is, all who are baptized in any Christian tradition are welcome to receive the bread and cup as Jesus gave them to the disciples. You are welcome to come forward as the pastor extends Jesus’ invitation to “all who love God, seek to follow him, and pray to live in peace with one another.” All bread served is gluten-free. Grape juice, not wine, is offered. Communion is typically celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.
The ministries and programs of Cargill UMC are supported by the financial offerings of members and friends. You will find offering boxes plates at the entrances to the Sanctuary and Chapel, which you may use before or after worship. We encourage members, friends and guests to give online – whether regularly or a one-time contribution.
The Cargill Church campus is home to 40 indoor spaces, each dedicated to people of all ages growing in faith. These spaces include a main worship center (Sanctuary), the Riggs Chapel, a large gathering space (Fellowship Hall), a licensed kitchen, a lounge, classrooms and meeting spaces. In the center of the building is an enclosed English garden called the Garth.
The building is also home to Cargill Christian Learning Center, which serves more than 100 families.
NextGen Ministries at Cargill United Methodist Church is ministry designed for children and students ages 0 thru 18 and their families. We believe children are not just the future of the church—they are a vital part of it today. That is why we love having children and students in worship and creating opportunities for all generations to grow together in faith and community.
One of our biggest priorities is creating meaningful multigenerational experiences where kids, students, parents, grandparents, and our church families can build relationships together. Throughout the year we offer events like events such as an annual trivia night, Beloit Sky Carp baseball game, visiting a pumpkin patch, decorating for Christmas, movie nights and other opportunities throughout the year for connection.
On Sunday mornings, families can expect a welcoming environment with opportunities designed specifically for kids and students. We offer busy bags for multiple ages, a family table near the front of the sanctuary for children to use during worship, and a themed worship bulletin each week that connects with the service message. Children are invited forward for a weekly children’s message, and nursery care is available for ages 0–5 during worship services.
We also celebrate important faith milestones throughout a child and student’s journey, including baptism, 3rd Grade Bible presentation, confirmation, Graduation Sunday, and more.
Below you can learn more specifics many of our current and future programs.

Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings during worship services for children ages 0–5. Our nursery provides a safe, caring, and welcoming environment where children can play, learn, and be cared for while parents and guardians participate in worship.
Nursery care is also offered during various church events and programs when childcare is needed.
